What Is an Independent Educational Evaluation?

An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a comprehensive assessment completed by a qualified professional not employed by your school district. Parents often request an IEE when they disagree with the district’s evaluation, want a deeper understanding of their child’s learning profile, or need a more accurate diagnosis to support IEP or 504 decisions. Our evaluations are objective, thorough, and focused on identifying a student’s strengths, challenges, and educational needs with clarity and precision.

Why Families Choose Us for Their IEE

Families select us because our evaluations balance clinical expertise with deep school-based experience. Every IEE is performed by highly trained evaluators who understand IDEA regulations, state-specific eligibility criteria, and how schools interpret data during IEP and 504 meetings. Our reports are detailed yet accessible, helping families and school teams make informed decisions with confidence.

We also bring a collaborative, non-adversarial approach. Schools often appreciate our clarity, depth, and alignment with educational best practices. Parents appreciate our responsiveness, communication, and the time we take to explain every detail.

What Our IEE Evaluation Includes

Our independent evaluations may include:

  • Cognitive assessment (IQ / reasoning abilities)

  • Academic achievement testing (reading, writing, math)

  • Phonological and reading-based assessments

  • Executive functioning and attention evaluations

  • Behavior, emotional, and social assessments

  • Memory and processing evaluations

  • Adaptive functioning assessment

  • Autism assessment components (if needed)

  • Parent and teacher interviews

  • Comprehensive record review

  • School observation (when permitted)

Each assessment plan is individualized based on the student’s history, needs, and referral questions.

Who We Evaluate

We complete IEEs for students enrolled in:

  • Public schools

  • Private schools

  • Charter schools

  • Cyber schools and online learning academies

  • Homeschool programs

  • Hybrid/microschool settings

We evaluate students from early childhood through college-age, including transition-aged learners.

Our IEE Process (Step-by-Step)

  1. Consultation and background review

  2. Comprehensive testing (in-person or online)

  3. Record review and integration of school data

  4. Scoring, interpretation, and analysis

  5. Comprehensive written report

  6. Review meeting with parents

  7. Optional attendance at IEP or school meetings

Our process is streamlined, family-friendly, and aligned with school timelines.

Common Reasons Parents Request an IEE

  • School evaluation felt incomplete or inaccurate

  • Suspected learning disability (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)

  • ADHD, executive functioning, or attention concerns

  • Autism concerns or unclear diagnostic picture

  • Behavioral or emotional difficulties

  • Twice-exceptional (2e) considerations

  • Disagreement with IEP eligibility or classification

  • No progress despite MTSS/RTI interventions
