Comprehensive Autism Testing & Evaluations in PA, NJ, NYC & Online

At Leonard Educational Evaluations, we provide thorough, sensitive, and neurodiversity-affirming autism evaluations for children, teens, college students, and adults. Our assessments examine social communication, emotional regulation, sensory processing, learning, behavior, and daily functioning to determine whether an individual meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Whether you are exploring early signs in a young child, seeking answers for a teen, or pursuing a late-diagnosis as an adult, our evaluations offer clarity, validation, and personalized recommendations so you can access the support you deserve.

What Is an Autism Evaluation?

An autism evaluation—also called an autism assessment, ASD testing, or a neurodevelopmental evaluation—is a clinical process that helps identify social, emotional, behavioral, and developmental patterns associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

An evaluation may be used to:

  • Diagnose or rule out Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Clarify overlapping or co-occurring conditions (ADHD, anxiety, OCD, giftedness, depression)

  • Support early intervention, therapy, and educational planning

  • Qualify for services, IEPs, 504 Plans, workplace supports, or accommodations

  • Help individuals and families better understand themselves and their needs

We use only research-supported, gold-standard tools and a strengths-based, neurodiversity-informed approach.

Signs That an Autism Evaluation May Be Helpful

You or your child may benefit from autism testing if there are concerns about:

  • Delayed or unusual language development

  • Intense interests or repetitive behaviors

  • Difficulty with peer relationships or social cues

  • Sensory sensitivities or rigid routines

  • Emotional outbursts or difficulty with transitions

  • Challenges with eye contact, body language, or conversation

  • Feeling overwhelmed in social or unstructured environments

  • “Masking” behaviors that cause exhaustion or burnout

  • Co-occurring concerns like ADHD, anxiety, OCD, or depression

  • Being misunderstood by teachers, clinicians, or peers

  • Wanting a clearer sense of identity or self-understanding

What’s Included in a Comprehensive Autism Assessment

Our evaluations are individualized based on age, symptoms, developmental history, and referral questions. A comprehensive ASD evaluation may include:

  • Parent/caregiver developmental interview (for minors)

  • Clinical interview with the child, teen, or adult (age-appropriate and trauma-informed)

  • Standardized autism assessments (including ADOS-2 when indicated)

  • Cognitive and language testing

  • Executive functioning and adaptive behavior assessments

  • Emotional and behavioral inventories

  • Sensory profile or observational data (if applicable)

  • Review of school documentation or previous evaluations

  • A detailed written report with diagnosis (if applicable) and individualized recommendations

  • Optional school consultation or follow-up session

FAQ – Autism Testing & Evaluation

What age can a child be evaluated for autism?
We evaluate children beginning at age 5. Younger children with developmental concerns may be referred for early intervention assessments or specialized toddler programs.

Can adults be tested for autism?
Yes. We evaluate college students and adults, including individuals who were never assessed in childhood, those who suspect they are autistic, or those seeking clarity for work, identity, or mental health.

Is ADOS-2 required for an autism diagnosis?
ADOS-2 is a gold-standard tool and is used when appropriate, but a diagnosis is never based on one test. We use a combination of interviews, standardized measures, behavioral observations, and developmental history.

Do you evaluate autism and ADHD together?
Yes. Many people have both ADHD and autism. Our evaluations assess social communication, attention, executive functioning, and emotional regulation so we can clarify overlapping or co-occurring conditions.

How long does an autism evaluation take?
Most evaluations occur over 1–2 sessions, with reports typically completed within 7–14 days. Rush services may be available when needed.

Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider. Families may be able to receive partial reimbursement depending on their plan. A detailed invoice is provided upon request.

Will the report qualify my child for school services or a 504 Plan?
Yes. Our reports are accepted by public and private schools, universities, and workplace accommodation offices.

Can an autism diagnosis help adults?
Absolutely. Many adults pursue evaluation to better understand themselves, access therapy, request workplace accommodations, or connect with supportive communities.
